Honourable Delegates, I, Prisha Patel, would like to extend to you a warm welcome to the United Nations Human Rights Council for NIMUN XIV.

 

UNHRC is a pivotal platform for all delegates to advocate for the rights of the human race, and the world in which we survive today. The significance of UNHRC is embedded in its sole purpose of protecting human rights in the pursuit of equality, dignity, and justice for all.

 

The UNHRC is crucial because it serves as a forum for dialogue and accountability, bringing attention to abuses, fostering international cooperation, and supporting efforts to uphold fundamental freedoms and rights for all individuals. Its work helps to ensure that human rights remain a central concern on the global stage and that states are held accountable for their commitments to human dignity and justice.

 

As the Chairperson of UNHRC this year, I have made it my mission to fulfill the original mandate and purpose behind the creation of UNHRC. I strive for the overwhelming passion and empathy, intellectual combat, and willingness to work towards a common goal. 

As your Chair, my goal is to instill this drive and vision within you, a vision that helps you gauge that in UNHRC, it isn't state versus state, it is all of us at UNHRC against the countless violations and casualties prevalent across the globe. 

 

With this in mind, let us all strive for a compelling, constructive, and profoundly rewarding debate this year.
